Do you keep your injection molding machine "warm" when cold air strikes?

When the weather is getting very cold at certain countries and areas, there are something we need to know and do to protect our injection molding machines.

1. Maintenance of injection molding machine

The sudden drop in temperature may affect the operation of the injection molding machine. In this environment, we have to pay attention to the machines anti-freezing or damp-proof protection, to avoid any damages caused.



The transmission force of the injection molding machine depends on hydraulic oil. Generally, the injection molding machine can be used normally at room temperature of 10°C to 40°C. When the temperature is lower than this range, the viscosity of the oil is too high, and the pressure cannot be reached, thereby impairing the operation. For customers who use the machine in the northern cold zone, it is recommended to install the oil temperature preheating function to ensure that the oil temperature can be within a reasonable range. When the cooler is running, the oil temperature is low. If the parameters such as the pressure and speed are rated at this time, the oil temperature will gradually increase with the extension of production time. When the oil temperature is high, the viscosity will be lower than the oil pressure at low temperatures. Therefore, it often happens that the size is too large at ejection, and becomes smaller after one or two hours of normal production, resulting in obvious shrinkage. This is also the reason why proofing products are good, but normal production is unstable. The oil temperature should be controlled between 45°C and 55°C.

When the weather is cold, the oil temperature cooling water should be turned off when starting up, and the cooling water should be turned on after the oil temperature rises.

2. Preparation before and after machine operation

(1) The standard process temperature is 5-10°C higher than that in spring and autumn. If the temperature is too low, you need to check whether each joint is frozen.

(2) Check the hydraulic system seals to avoid leakage caused by low-temperature deformation of seals such as O-rings.

(3) Check whether the electrical and hydraulic components work normally; check whether has any abnormal noise and loose components to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.

(4)  If the lubrication pump oil cannot be turned on, add hydraulic oil appropriately for an emergency response to meet the lubrication requirements.

(5)  After shutdown, you should clean up the residual circulating water in the cooling system to avoid freezing and cracking the oil cooler and pipeline.

(6)  Clean up the cooling water drain and the residual circulating water in the mold.

(7)  Keep the injection molding machine and fuselage clean.
