『Apply what you have learned, and pursue continual optimization』

The operating conditions of enterprises are constantly changing, which urges managers to keep pace with the times through continual learning. Having run FSC Group for over 40 years, Mr. Po Hsun Wang still keeps in mind the ancient motto of “Learning without thought is labor lost; thought without learning is perilous.” Besides, he has taken initiative to build himself a model – seeking a further study of industrial engineering and management at National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology. After studying hard for five years and a half, he obtained the doctoral degree in January 2020.

After graduation, Mr. Po Hsun Wang shared his thought, saying “Theory must be integrated with practice. I hope that the topic of a dissertation for a master’s or doctoral degree will be based on the problems facing enterprises and that the research results will be used to help enterprises improve their operation and solve problems. If this method is popularized, it will boost the overall economic development of Taiwanese enterprises.”

Looking back over the years since the establishment of his business, he said that he witnessed the economic prosperity of Taiwan in the 1970s as well as encountered the ordeal imposed by the financial turmoil. Today, FCS Group plays a leading role in the industry of injection molding machine in Taiwan and pursues diversified development. He is leading the group toward the business vision of developing recycling economy and environmentally-friendly energy.

But after analyzing the competitions in the global market, Mr. Po Hsun Wang found that he was still confronted with many challenge in terms of operation. For instance, the ineffective management of the supply chains prompted problems, from inactive or inadequate materials to postponed delivery and excessive inventory cost, which affected the immediacy of services and customer satisfaction.
Therefore, Mr. Po Hsun Wang decided to take the doctoral courses in spite of his busy schedule, with the hope of finding the solutions to the problems. To finish the doctoral dissertation entitled “A Study of the Introduction of Global Supply Chain Management to Transnational Enterprises – Taking FCS Group as a Case Study”, he held interviews with the experts from businesses, governments and universities, drafted a questionnaire about the major rules of the introduction of global supply chain management to transnational enterprises, and adopted the Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) to select three dimensions, including “supply chain management performance”, “supply chain management dimension” and “organizational effectiveness”, eight indexes and 46 critical factors.

According to the research results, “supply chain management performance” and “supply chain management dimension” are the most effective in increasing “organizational effectiveness”; some constructive measures, such as incorporating “flexible delivery” into the supplier management, adding “strategic procurement” into the strategy and goal of corporate operation, combining “inventory cost” with inventory management and control, and integrating “spontaneous engineering” into supplier evaluation and special control over product development, can increase “customer satisfaction” and “financial and market efficacy” and enhance the competitiveness of enterprises.

As an enterprise becomes international, supply chain management will undoubtedly become one of the most essential parts in the course of its development. To implement the strategy of “Exercise overall quality management and pursue remarkable operation”, FCS Group is striving to make a global plan to facilitate the combination of the resources of supply chains, push ahead the fulfillment of the goal of “becoming a Global Top 10 and making a profit of NTD 10 billion”, and create a better future with its employees and partners.
