Report on 2005 IPF---The Injection Molding Machine

The IPF was held once every 3 years. It is the biggest plastic and rubber machine fair in Asia. The fair displays kinds of plastic related machines, including molding machines, mold, processing machines, accessories, controllers, and products including finished goods, semi-finished goods, plastic & rubber material, parts, accessories, recycle processing etc. Last show was held in 2002, there were 850 exhibitors using 2800 booths and more than 157,000 visitors. In 2006 IPF, there were 136 thousand visitors join the show, it is 20 thousand less compare to 2002 IPF, while the exhibitors are 10% more than 2002 IPF. Beside, there were 936 exhibitors using 2,717 booth in the show.

The quality of the visitors was pretty good this time. The percentage of visitors from Japan was 93% and the others mainly came from Korea, China and Taiwan. Visitors from Europe or American were comparative less than these areas. The major reasons we infer that it must because the show is basically followed the need of Japanese companies. In addition, China, Korea and Taiwan were close to Japan. In that case, visitors from Asia were more than visitors from other areas.




In terms of the injection molding machine in the show, there were 36 companies displayed more than 90 molding machines including kinds of vertical injection machines, horizontal injection machines, LIM, MuCell injection machines and etc. The clamping force distributed from 3.9 tons to 650 tons. Because the exhibitors of injection machines were almost Japanese companies, and Japan is the main country which strives on all-electric machines for years, the machines displayed were almost all electric injection molding machines. But there was a very interesting phenomenon in this show, that is though more than 90% of injection machine market was occupied by all electric machines, but there were some companies showed their hydraulic machines and hybrid machines. Base on this situation, we think the injection molding machine market started to diversify into smaller markets. That means different markets will have different needs to the machines. In other words, the hydraulic machines, hybrid machines and all electric machines will find their own market in the future. In addition to the producers from Japan, Canada, Taiwan and Europe, there were producers from China. We think this shows the ambitions of China producers are very aggressive. In the near future, there will be some companies become world famous ones.

To in conclude the content of this show, there are 5 major industries solutions were displayed including 1.Auto Parts, 2.Precision Electric Parts & Device, 3.Flat Panel Display, 4.Medical Parts, 5.Food Package. These topics show 2 meanings, the first is these fields are the star industries and either provide Japanese companies with high profit margins or create high sales by huge market needs. Because Japanese manufactures need to stand on a risk of longer investment recovering time for their higher equipment cost if they invest on industries providing less profit margins. The second is the Japanese companies usually buy equipments with Japanese Brands because of their industry-chain culture. Due to this reason, the Japanese equipment- manufactures will display machines for the Japanese producers purposely. So, in 2006 IPF, we can think ahead the future trend Japanese companies will continue strive on .In addition, these industries also reflect the Japanese company status of the world, for instance, many well known companies in these industries such as Toyota, Nissan, Sony, Panasonic, Nikon, Canon, Sharp etc.

 

Every plastic products producer is trying to decrease the cost. Because of it, many companies are looking for partners to lower the cost. This is a good chance to Asian producers.

 

On other hand, under the global-competitive environment, Japanese companies face a very difficult time than before. In the near future, they wont be able to stick to Japanese-made machines and start to look for outsourcing and partners from other Asian companies to cut down cost. In this situation, Taiwan manufactures will jump at the chance and also increase the needs of Taiwan-made machines.




Fu Chun Shin, the professional machine producer from Taiwan, displayed their newly designed product, AF-100, Hybrid Injection Molding Machine. The AF series combined hydraulic structure with electric structure. It has All Electric Injection Molding Machines characteristics of precise location and energy saving; on the other hand, it has hydraulic structures feature of strong clamping force. In other words, Hybrid Injection Molding Machine costs less than All Electric injection molding machine, but improves traditional hydraulic injection molding machines problem of energy consuming and insufficient precision and also reduce massively its pollution and noise. The AF series could be featured with injection-compression function to produce thin wall products. During this show, Fu Chun Shin promoted the product focusing on the mobile phone makers and FPD makers. Fu Chun Shin produced 2.4 Light Guide Panel for the mobile phone and digital camera in the hall. The high stability and repetition caught the visitors eyeballs. And the 8.5 seconds cycle time gave the visitors a deep impression. The demonstration is the fastest in the exhibition. After seeing the demonstration, many visitors were impressed because it was Made In Taiwan.

 

Totally speaking, the machine producers in 2005 IPF demonstrated their turnkey solutions to the visitors instead of just displaying the features of the machine. The solution can decrease the cost of the production and also it could simplify the work. In addition, this solution can provide customers with the One-Stop-Shopping Service. The Taiwan producers should think about this way very seriously. In this show, Taiwan manufacturers showed their best side and attracted many attentions from the visitors. This will be very helpful to Taiwan companies for promoting to the high-end markets.
